The One Thing Necessary
Here we are again at
the close of another year. The close of the year brings a time of reflection
and anticipation all in the same moment. We reflect on the past year and see
what has come to pass. My prayer is that during such a reflection, we remember
to look at what God has done for us. What has God done for you in 2015? While
asking that question we also have a sense of anticipation for the New Year that
is coming. We anticipate what God has in store for us in 2016.
I want us to think
about the one thing necessary as we close another great year and anticipate
toward 2016.
What about our prayer life? How did you grow in prayer during the
course of 2015? How do you want to grow in 2016 when it comes to prayer? Why is
prayer so important? Prayer is the oxygen of our relationship with God. When
prayer is absent, the relationship suffers. We see encouragement and
commandments to pray throughout the Bible story as we read it daily. The story
of the Bible is filled with prayer.
Prayer was an essential part of the lives
of the people of God in Bible history.
When we take the time
to review our prayer lives and look for ways that we need to grow, we begin to
see the value in prayer. We learn that we can’t go on without it in daily life.
When we try to do it all on our own, we fail and we do so miserably. Begin now
as we go into the New Year and look for ways that you can grow in prayer with
God. Start small and see God do the rest, you may be surprised.
Keep praying…Trent
