Paying Attention
The journey continues everyday and in every moment of our lives. The people we meet and the conversations we have are significant to our daily path. What do you see in others when you encounter them? What do you hear in conversations with them? Sometimes we are living life so fast that we don't remember what we see and what we hear.
The call to pay attention to the rhythms of our journey is key to understanding the path that we are on.
Listening to God and where he is taking you will enable you to see clearer and make the best choices as you travel. Sometimes this involves paying attention to God and the people he places in our path. Listen to the conversations you are having and look at your circumstances carefully. Learning is a journey within itself, and it is important that we learn from others daily.
I want to share something with you that happened to me recently in dealing with paying attention.
I was at a ministers meeting and lunch recently in our region. We had some very rich conversations that involved sharing about our lives and ministries with one another. A particular question was brought up about ministry life and leadership from a mentor of mine. As the conversation grew in depth, some very important things were shared in the group. After a few minutes of sharing back and forth, I began to realize something.
The discussion had began to answer a deep question that I have had on my mind for a few years now. How did this happen a solid two years later? What have I been missing since then? Some things became clearer and I began to have some true clarity concerning a personal quest that I had been on for a while. It was indeed a God centered moment!
What about paying attention? Do we pay attention enough in our daily conversations with others? What if I wasn't paying attention to the conversation at the ministers meeting? I may not have received the clarity that I received concerning a deep concern in my life.
Take some time today to begin paying attention to God and others. Begin by just slowing down to listen to what is being said and let it settle on your heart. Engage in the lives of others and you will learn to pay attention more on daily basis. Start today, pray about it, and see where God takes you with it.
Pay attention...Trent
