Sabbath Rest

Sabbath Moments

Here we are at the close of another week full of adventure and life experiences. What a ride it has been for some of us. Life is full of brand new experiences everyday. There is an opportunity to learn something new about someone everyday of our lives. I pray that your week has been a good experience for you and those you love.

(Gethsemani Abbey 2014)

Today I want to share with you a simple practice that has helped me in my journey with God and growing closer to him. What do you think of when you hear the term Sabbath? What ideas or thoughts come to your mind? I think of the day that our Lord rested after creating the universe. I also think of rest and reflection. Sabbath is a predominately Jewish term that comes from the fact that God rested on the last day of the week after he finished creating the universe. We see the practice put in place later in the Jewish law and life in the Jewish Bible (Old Testament).

So, what benefit is Sabbath for us today? Sabbath is very beneficial for life today! The simple practice I want to share with you today is the practice of Sabbath moments. These moments in time are often short yet powerful. While some may be able to give longer periods of time to Sabbath rest, some may not be able to do so. Sabbath moments are small moments in our day that we can pause and reflect on God. It may be on your lunch break, early in the morning, while driving, or a quiet moment at the office or workplace. The change in location helps, but can be anywhere that you are present. Take a moment in your day or week and pause; turn the computer, iPad, phone, etc. off and just be for a moment in time with God. This practice over time will become something you look forward too and you won't go without it. Begin small and see where it takes you. You might be surprised at where it takes you as you face the day ahead of you.

Stay with it....Trent
