Monday Refuel...When the Salt Runs Out!

When the Salt Runs Out!

“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.” (Matthew 5:13, NRSV)

My prayer this week is that all of you had a great Thanksgiving with your families and those close to you.

When you were at your tables with your families and getting ready to share the meal last week, did you have enough salt and pepper? Yes, I know that is an out of the ordinary question. What if you received the saltshaker and it was empty or the salt had no taste to it at all? You would either refill it or throw out the salt with no taste. The scripture at the beginning of this article talks about how we are the salt of the earth. When the salt, or our life, has lost its taste, it is thrown out. It is not good for anything. If the saltshaker, or our life, were empty, we would refill it.

How does this apply to our lives as Christians? There are two ways to look at this reflection.  If our life has no taste and it doesn’t involve God in it, is it good for anything? If our life is empty and God is absent, is it good for anything? The answer to both is, no! Where is God in your life today? Are you running on empty or are you at risk of being thrown out because your life has no taste of God in it? Think about it for a minute and ask yourself what you need to do next. Take some time this week to refill your life with God and improve your presence/taste as the salt of the earth. Where are you with God this week? That is a question that only you can answer and only God can respond in the best way possible for you.

Stay seasoned…Trent
