Solitude and Life

Where does solitude fit into your life? Does it have its place anywhere during the day or night? Solitude can be frightening to some and refreshing to others. Some long for it at the end of the day, while some may dread it. Our daily lives are filled with crowds, sounds, lights, machines, deadlines, and many other distractions. Learning to value solitude takes time and patience with ourselves. Putting it into practice creates a space for it in our daily life.

Soon this space becomes a welcomed part of the fabric of our lives.

Solitude heals us in ways that we can't imagine. We often don't see what it does for us. Most of the healing is internal and unseen. It takes a long time to see the results of this kind of healing. That is why its a difficult practice to do regularly. We often give up on something when we don't receive instant results. Solitude teaches us to wait, tarry, persevere, and remain for the long haul. We learn to stay with it and never give up. Life gives us a lot to process and often in a short amount of time. Solitude helps us break it down and take it one step at a time. We learn to develop a healthy pace and we learn as we grow.

Begin where you are in life, include solitude into a small area, and watch it grow.

It will become a part of you in a valuable way. Set a time of the day and practice it for five minutes and go from there. You may want to add time as you get used to it. Turn off and unplug during this time.

Take time for God and yourself, you will not regret it.

Begin today...
